Discover our electric fences for goats

Our electric fences for goats offer barriers designed to contain and manage goat herds effectively. These fences send an electric charge through the wire to create a psychological deterrent, preventing goats from attempting to break out or jump over the enclosure. There are various types of electric fences available for goats. Permanent electric fences use solid materials such as high-tensile wire for long-lasting enclosures. Temporary electric fences, on the other hand, offer flexibility and are ideal for rotational grazing.

Tips for determining the best fence for you

To choose the right electric fence for your goat herd, consider factors such as the size of your property, terrain, and the number of goats you have. Evaluate the strength of the energiser needed to cover the desired area. For effective electric fencing on a sheep farm in the United Kingdom, with its varied landscape of hills, valleys, and uneven terrain, focus on ensuring the fence is high enough (90-120 cm) with multiple wires (3-5) spaced appropriately to prevent escape. Select appropriate fence posts and insulators based on the landscape. Make sure to opt for high-quality conductive materials that ensure a consistent shock. Prioritise visibility by using bright-coloured tape or flags to help goats recognise the fence.

Maintain adequate voltage from a well-grounded energiser and use quality insulators to prevent energy loss. Use durable materials for posts and wires, and regularly inspect and repair the fence, especially after rain storms or harsh weather conditions.

Installing your fence

Installing an electric fence requires proper planning but isn't necessarily different from other farm animals. Begin by mapping out the fence line and marking the locations for fence posts. Install the energizer and connect it to the conductive wires or tapes. Proper grounding is crucial for the fence's effectiveness, so we recommend using an earthing stake. Once installed, regularly inspect the fence for any damage or vegetation interference. Train the goats to the fence by allowing them to experience the shock and learn to associate it with the fence's presence. We hope this information helps, but if you still require additional information please contact our customer support.
