How to install a solar powered electric fence

How to install a solar powered electric fence

To help you decide which size solar panel you require, please use the tables at the bottom of the page, or use our simple panel size calculator. Enter EITHER the power consumption (in W), the current rating (in mA) OR  the stored energy (in J) and hit 'calculate' (do not enter more than one). If your energiser gives the current rating in amps (A), multiply this number by 1000 to get the corresponding milliamps (mA).

Power consumption of the energiser (at 12V):
Watts

OR
Energiser current rating in milliamps (at 12V):
mA
OR
Stored energy (joules):
Minimum solar panel size =
W

Whilst it is difficult to say exactly which solar panel is suitable for which energiser, we have tried to simply matters with the following table:

*This is based on our solar panels only; other panels may not perform as well in many cases.
**This is for 24hr, year-round operation without charging, but it may be necessary to charge very occasionally in harsh winters or shaded areas; the panel should be south facing at 45-degrees.
***This depends very much on the manufacturer, model and age of the energizer
