Step-in & stirrup posts for electric fencing

For setting up temporary electric fencing, step-in posts and stirrup posts have become the go-to choice for farmers and smallholders. We’ve tested dozens of these posts over the years on everything from short strip-grazing runs to multi-acre rotational grazing systems. And the stirrup post design, in particular, offers a real edge: the broad footplate acts like a lever, letting you push the post securely into hard or stony ground without needing a mallet. A great time-saver during busy mornings when moving livestock to fresh pasture.

Step-in posts for hard soil

Step-in posts, on the other hand, can be just as useful for quick fencer installation. We offer two variants, one with a single step and one with two steps, one on either side. We’ve used both, and each has its place. Single-step posts have one footplate at the base: quick to install when ground is soft or sandy. Double-step posts have two footplates, one on each side of the spike, so you can apply balanced pressure with both feet. On firmer ground, clay soils, or stony pasture, that extra leverage makes a big difference: the post goes in straighter and faster, and you don’t need to reach for a mallet.

Over time, we’ve also found it pays to invest in posts from trusted brands with thicker walls and strong UV stabilisers. While the initial costs can be slightly higher for these posts, they often last many grazing seasons longer, saving both time and replacement cost!
