What is a wire tensioner

An electric fence wire tensioner is a tool used to apply tension to wire fencing, to keep it taut and secure.

Why use an Electric fence wire tensioner

Have your conductors ever had slack? This can be the case right away after you erect your fence or after it has been in operation for a while. Slack in your conductors primarily results from the wire expanding as a result of varying daytime and seasonal temperatures, animals resting against the fence, or pole movement over time.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to avoid conductor slack sooner or later. but may be maintained under control with routine inspections and proper upkeep. An uncomfortable circumstance since your fence is less safe for your animals as a result of this. They risk hurting themselves if they get trapped in the wires.

It is also bad for the strength and durability of your fence. The conductors travel in the wind as a result of the slack, which damages them. Your power wire's conductivity will diminish as a result, necessitating an urgent requirement to replace the conductors.

Types of electric fence tensioners

There are a few of types of electric fence tensioners, such as a Rotating tensioner, a cord tensioner, a corner insulator and a tension spring.

Rotating tensioner

With a rotating tensioner, you effortlessly tension aluminised fence wire or plastic cord. One advantage is that you no longer need to cut the wire. As a result, you maintain a perfect power connection. Relaxing the wire afterwards or tightening it even more is thus also very easy. The rotating tensioner is made of aluminium: rust is practically impossible.

Cord tensioner

The cord tensioner is for easy cord tensioning and easy cord release with the thumb latch. For use in combination with the roll corner insulator or the S-insulator.

Corner insulator for electric fence tape

The corner insulator is an insulator made of high-quality plastic that clamps the tape between 2 separate rubber parts, ensuring a long service life. By pulling the electric fence tape tight and clamping it with the corner insulator, the tape will be nice and tight.

Tension spring

The tension spring allows you to keep the wire taut and elastic in hot and cold weather always tight and elastic. If you use tension springs, you can double the pole spacing. That makes a big difference in costs. In addition, the corner posts stay in place better and you need less maintenance work on the fence.

How to use a fence wire tensioner

You can tension your electric fence wire with the following three steps:

  • Use the tensioners you've selected to tension the wires.
  • It's critical to have the proper tension so that an animal hits the fence and receives an electric shock right away. It becomes more of a psychological barrier for the animal as a result.
  • Attach the wires to the intermediate posts, then use wire clips to link the various wires.

It's important to make sure that the wire is tight enough, but not so tight that it becomes damaged or distorted. You may need to adjust the tension as needed over time to maintain the integrity of the fence.

Wire tensioner ratchet strainer

An electric fence ratchet strainer is a device that is used to tension and secure electric fence wire or tape. It is a manual tensioning tool that is used to keep the fence wire or tape tight and secure. The ratchet strainer consists of a handle with a ratchet mechanism, a tensioning arm with a hook on one end, and a clip on the other end.

The tensioning arm of the ratchet strainer is attached to the fence wire or tape, and the clip is attached to the fence post. The handle is used to ratchet the wire or tape tight by turning the handle, which tightens the tension on the wire or tape. This helps to prevent sagging and keep the fence wire or tape at a consistent tension.

The ratchet strainer is useful to ensure the fences remains tight, so that it won't stretch and loose tension over time or due to weather or environment influences. This will help in maintain the electric charge and make sure the fence perform as intended.

It is important to use the appropriate ratchet strainer for the type of fence wire or tape that you are using, as different types of wire or tape may require different tensioning techniques or tools. It's also important to follow the instruction manual when using a ratchet strainer to ensure that you are using it correctly and safely.
