Charge Controllers are a ''simple'' safety device that prevent your solar panel from overcharging your battery. The charge controller monitors the battery voltage and regulates the charging current from the solar panel/s. It will also prevent current draining away from the batteries and back to the panels during the night.
When making your selection, please ensure that your solar system will not exceed the maximum current specification of the charge controller. To do this, divide the power output of the solar panel array (in watts) by the battery bank voltage, eg. 90W / 12V = 7.5A. You should add 20% to account for peak output fluctuations (eg. 7.5A + 20% = 9A minimum).
