Renewable energy technologies have developed significantly over the past decade or so and although these technologies are probably not quite yet a direct replacement for the more conventional forms of power production, they should not be considered secondary. Solar Panels, Wind Turbines etc. work i.e. they produce electricity! and once you have a system in place, whatever energy is being produced is inflation proof.
Unless something drastic happens in the marketplace, the renewable systems in place today will save more money next year than they will this year. Interestingly, Hull city council recently published figures* comparing energy consumption during 2000 through to 2006. The results show an increase of 17.7% for both electricity consumption and CO2 emissions, with an increase in costs during this period of 55.8%. There is no reason to believe these results are unusual.
There are many good reasons for choosing to make use of renewable energy technologies. Until quite recently, many of our customers may have purchased renewable energy products, particularly larger systems primarily for altruistic reasons. Given that our planets natural resources aren’t becoming more abundant, or cheaper to plunder, combined with the ever increasing financial costs and demands for power, it would seem to us that bringing alternative technologies into the mainstream are now less altruistic and more common sense;
It may seem ironic to many of our earlier customers that the changing the focus from “green energy” to “inflation proof energy” is doing its bit to drive changing attitudes, but long may it continue.
