The 12v Hotline P500S Falcon Solar / Battery powered electric fence energiser is one of the most reliably self sufficient, fit for purpose, solar electric fence energisers available. An excellent High Power fencer that is suitable for Multi-Purpose Farm Uses where mains power is unavailable. It is ideal for sheep, (up to 15 electrified sheep nets), protecting crops from rabbit infestation, (up to 12 lengths of electrified rabbit netting), pigs, poultry and cattle, (beef and dairy), protecting game or fish pens etc...
The Falcon Solar uses its solar panel to assist the charging of any external 12v battery that you connect.
Given a reasonable degree of sunlight, the Falcon's Solar panel will keep the battery charged and your electric fence running almost indefinitely. At worst, during prolonged periods of poor, or dull weather this will you will still enjoy a significant increase in the length of time you can use the battery, before having to charge it using the mains. If this does occur, the Falcon Solar Energiser is fitted with an internal battery that is also charged and maintained by the 10 Watt solar panel and this back-up battery will last for three days on high output and five days on low output - even with no sunshine to help it, giving you time to recharge the main battery at your leisure.
By comparison, connect a 75Ah leisure battery to the standard version of the Falcon energiser, which has the same features and performance as the Falcon Solar, but without the assistance of the solar panel and the battery will require charging every 3 - 4 weeks, dependant on the output setting.
The Hotline P500S Falcon energiser has two output levels and when animals are first introduced to the electric fencing, the energiser should be set to 'high' for about seven days. This allows the animals time to become accustomed to and learn to respect the electric fence line before you switch to 'low' power to conserve power, should you wish to do so. If using the Falcon Solar with better insulated animals such as full fleeced sheep or over-wintering horses that are either shaggy, or wearing blankets, then we would recommend maintaining the higher power setting.
As the Falcon energiser is designed to be used on long lengths of electric fencing, an earth stake at least 1m in length must be used. If the animals are being fenced for the first time, the energiser should be set to 'high' for the first week and can then be switched to 'low' after this initial period in order to conserve the battery life. If however, the electric fence is being used to keep animals out of a protected area, the energiser should always be switched to the 'high' output position.
The LED will flash GREEN when the unit is working correctly, but will change to RED when the battery requires re-charging. A buzzer will sound if the battery terminals are connected incorrectly.
Please refer to the section 'Installation of Battery Energisers' in our Guide to understanding modern electric fences for more information on connecting your energiser.
