For your electric fence to be effective, the fence wires must be isolated from the fence posts (and anything else) i.e. there should be no contact whatsoever with the fence post unless you can be sure the post isn’t conductive, such as with when using plastic fence posts.
Electric fence insulators enable you to achieve this; securing the fence line to your posts while ensuring that the fencing material is isolated.
The type of electric fence insulator you choose will be based around the type of post you need to fix the fence line to, how you wish to fix the insulator to the post and also the fence material being used. Typically you will require two or sometimes three types of insulator; one to anchor the ends of the fence, which in some cases may also double as a corner insulator, another for the straight runs of fence.
